!! SHOW MOVED TO SATURDAYS THIS SPRING !!

MEET THE HOST

I’m Eve (they/them), and I have the pleasure of finding new local music every week. I love the NYC music scene and I want to promote everything I find!

I run everything having to do with Brooklyn Buzz, and my voice is the one you hear on-air! I also work at the WPIR station when i’m not working on my own show.

This is my final year at WPIR and I’m getting ready to swap the campus studio for something in the NYC music scene myself — hit me up if you’ve got leads!

WHAT YOU MISSED THIS PAST WEEK…

April 4th, 2026

⚝⚝⚝The first six songs today are extra important because they are all by artists that will be featured at the upcoming Pet Sounds Music Banquet this Saturday!! Pet Sounds is a super cool DIY music festival at Rubulad that you have probably been seeing me talk about for weeks now. I went to the first Pet Sounds in September and it was the coolest. So many endlessly talented people playing live and so many great vendors participating. You should make sure to grab tickets while they’re still available. So, on-air we featured all the artists who will be there this week as a teaser for what you can hear in real life. Also, last week, an Off-Air interview with Jake Murray of Diner Pets came out! In that interview we get a lot of the insider scoop on the Pet Sounds Music Banquet and all the reasons it’ll be even better than the last one!⚝⚝⚝

Jake from Diner Pets said Surgeon General was one of his favorites and that he was really excited to have them as part of the festival. Their music is more classic post-punk, high energy. Apparently they don’t play in NYC very often, so it is extra exciting to have them here this coming weekend. “In/Impatient” is off of a live album of theirs, which is always a good sign on Brooklyn Buzz because I only play the most energetic and impressive live recordings.

Jake from Diner pets describes Whirlybird as similar to Diner Pets in sound. Kinda twee, with very singer-songwriter type music. This tune is super fresh from Whirlybird as well, as it came out only last week! The whole EP, Closer to the Mirror, is worth checking out, but this song is my personal favorite off the album. I have a weak spot for trumpets like these.

In/Impatient (Live) ~ Surgeon General

Irish Goodbye ~ Whirlybird

Fantastic, beautiful music. This song is off the full album, I Love Big Old Dogs (which is super relatable by the way), and in the off-air interview, Jake from Diner Pets described Chammeili as “making incredibly feel-good indie music with big chords and big melodies. She is just great overall and her band is incredibly talented.” So, definitely come and see them play live April 11th!

Why’d I Bother ~ Chammeili

One Million ~ Weathergirl

I think Weathergirl is the only band of these first six that I’ve played on-air before. Earlier I played “Morning Glories/As the Crow Flies” (although on-air I couldn’t remember what the song was called and instead embarrassingly tried to explain the dental-focused album cover). They’re classic shoegaze with great vocalists, and a great band overall. It also sounds like Weathergirl was the last to be added to the Pet Sounds lineup and they were the final piece of the puzzle that made the setlist so top-tier for Saturday!

This tune is off of a full length album that came out recently, just in the middle of March! Evil Twin is awesome. In the Off-Air interview with Jake from Diner Pets, he explained that they played with Evil Twin a little bit ago at Pianos and they had a super fun time together. Evil Twin is kinda 90s/2000s rock, which I need more of in my life. I need more modern classic rock in my day-to-day, does that make sense? Even if it doesn't, Evil Twin satisfies that urge for me.

Frost on the Lilies ~ Evil Twin

This is the sixth and final of the featured artists that will be at the Pet Sounds Music Banquet this weekend. The Alabasters are really funky, almost a pavement band as Jake from Diner Pets explained in the Off-Air interview. Additionally, Diner Pets played with The Alabaters before and said they are absolutely stellar. I think this is a really strong way to end our Pet Sounds segment on Brooklyn Buzz today, because this tune is particularly nostalgic and catchy!

Tucked ~ The Alabasters

———— That is it for the Pet Sounds Music Banquet feature! Now for the rest of the show… ————

I played Father Koi last week, so this is a funny coincidence. On-air I was reading their Spotify bio, “Two eggs fried well done with whole wheat toast, sausage, and waffle fries” and it made me giggle. If that doesn’t persuade you to listen, then I don’t know what will. I wanted to play them this week because this is a tune that came out at the end of February and…

⚝ Koi will be playing a live show on April 23rd at Woodshop! I’m always excited when I get to shout out a venue I was previously unfamiliar with.

Sail the Ocean ~ koi

Better Safe Than Sorry ~ Claire Martine

This song came out this past week and it's SO beautiful, I’m a big fan of this one. And I feel extra connected to Claire in their music because they were born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has now moved and is based in NYC. I’m from Minnesota, right next door to Wisconsin, so I understand the feeling of the switch between the Midwest to the Big Apple. I hope you’re settling into the city comfortably, Claire!

You may previously have known Nettle as “Daysies,” but with a new name comes lots of new possibilities and great new music! This song came out not even a week ago, so it’s completely fresh. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears out for any shows and music they may have coming up in the future!

⚝ For example, they will be playing at Gold Sounds on April 25th! Support local artists <3

Apropos ~ Nettle

Hot Dog ~ Surfbort

These guys are really crazy, energized, fantastic performers. I wanted to play them when I did because they had a live show that same night at Market Hotel. Pratt student listeners (and especially younger ones), if you don’t know, Market Hotel is the place nearby the be! Now, for Surfbort, I think this song in particular is a perfect encapsulation of their sound and aesthetic. “Hot Dog” is off of their new album, Reality Star. If you like creative, unique, semi-comedic bands, Surfbort is perfect for you.

Texas Queen ~ Water Gun

Water Gun is another group that I played on-air forever ago now, and I felt like they deserved more love! I played their song “Heaven Sent” previously, but this fresh, new song came out only in the middle of March! This one is going to be entering my regular rotation for sure.
